Jamie Perez is a broadcast TV multimedia journalist. Jamie joined WISC-TV in Madison, WI in June 2018. She occasionally fills in on the anchor desk. She is an award-winning journalist and part of an Emmy-winning news team for their team coverage of major floods that hit Dane County in 2018.

Jamie's passion for journalism began when she was in middle school and started telling stories through poetry. After discovering she had a knack for weaving words together to paint a picture of someone's life and experience, she would go on to Sacramento City College where she started taking journalism courses and completed her GE.

She transferred to California State University, Northridge to finish school. She graduated with her BA in broadcast journalism with a minor in English.

Jamie landed several internships throughout her college career, including working for KCRA 3, the most watched TV station in Northern California.

Jamie's first job would take her to Sioux City, Iowa where she would report as an MMJ, produce and anchor the weekend newscasts at KCAU.

During her two year stint at KCAU, Jamie was a general assignment reporter. She covered a wide range of topics including breaking news, gas explosions, severe weather (blizzards, tornadoes, thunderstorms), local political scandal, fires, gun violence, court cases, agriculture and feature stories. About a year into her reporting, Jamie was promoted to weekend anchor and producer.

Jamie led the weekend team by making decisions as to what would lead a newscast every night, updating the web with all stories covered in that evening's rundown, and then boothing the show from the anchor desk.

Jamie loved being a leader in the newsroom on the weekends, and finding unique stories that would make the weekend news the best in the market. She also started Facebook live videos with the weekend meteorologist to engage more viewers to tune in and provide them with a chance to get to know the weekend talent.

After finishing her time in Iowa, Jamie moved to Madison, WI to join the team at the local legacy station, WISC.

During her time, she has MMJ'd most of her stories and has shown how efficient she is with time management and getting memorable moments on the air.

She has made connections to her viewers and broadened the newsroom concepts of creative storytelling.

Jamie loves to use GoPros, gimbals, drones, and is always looking up other stories in her free time to expand her skill set as a solo video journalist.

Jamie has proven her ability to cover both breaking news and feature stories with passion and the ability to answer the question for the viewers: Why should I care?

Jamie has a strong love for finding the human element in every story she covers.

When Jamie does not have a camera in her hands, she loves to shop, go to community events, travel, read, write, hike, do hot yoga, explore new restaurants, and Facetime her mom.
